About Susan Henderson
As a child growing up in Alaska where independence and a pioneer spirit come early, I was wildly imaginative, creative and intuitive.  Although very independant and willing to follow my curiosity wherever it led me, I was quite shy and super sensitive, especially to loud noise.  It was only in the last decade that I learned I am an HSP (see Elaine Aron's book The Highly Sensitive Person), which occurs in about 15-20 percent of the population.  I am warm, friendly and outgoing yet an introvert who needs plenty of solo time to renew my energy.  A loner who loves people.  An INFP.
I found my way to a formal coaching career in October 1998 when I stumbled upon one of the premier coaching schools, Coach U, while surfing online.  I started the program November 1st and graduated in March 2000  maintaining an active coaching practice throughout my training at Coach U.

In 2001, I moved to Washington state to accept a 3-month temporary position with a community college that morphed into 3 1/2 years and included advising students on career planning and their options for higher education degree programs.  I enrolled in creativity expert Eric Maisel's 16 week Creativity Coach Training program in January 2004 and actively coached eight clients while working full time at the college.  Loved coaching and advising - hated working in a cubicle in the 9-to-5 world.  Think fishbowl. My independent, creative soul was crying the blues. I left the college in May 2004, enrolled in Career Coach Institute (online program), moved closer to Seattle, and have been happily self-employed ever since as owner of Susan Henderson Coaching.

Throughout my teens into adulthood, people came to me for informal advice.  I am a deep listener--good at hearing what is spoken, and what is not.  Known for possessing an uncanny memory, my friends, colleagues, and family will say: "Ask Susan.  She remembers everything."  Sometimes said with a roll of the eyes and shake of the head.  Hey, it spooks me sometimes, too.

Like most of you who have found your way here, I have always had a burning desire to know about a huge variety of people, places, and things.  This desire along with my number one value—independence
has made it near impossible for me to work for someone else and be happy about it for very long.  Yes, I have had many different jobs.  Some were okay, even challenging and sometimes fun for awhile. But eventually I wanted to run screaming from the building... and actually did a couple of times.  I am happiest when I am the boss of me.

When I attended the University of Alaska I was like a kid in a candy store. I married (and divorced) quite young and raised a daughter as a single mom so I didn't get started until she was almost college age herself.  I took several of the general education requirement courses--loved anthropology and an interpersonal communication class as a subsitute for Speech, but after a couple of semesters I found myself in a marine biology class studying the critters in the tidal pools on the beach.  Then, long fascinated with the whole 'sheep to shawl' thing, I took a spinning class followed by weaving, which eventually led me to a program in North Carolina.  I took a workshop for women on using power tools and that led to enrolling in a construction class where we built a sauna.  I also took ground school for a private pilot's license.  I have a huge number of Art credits.  I am an avid reader and a lifelong learner.
